Knitting With Sequins
Adding sequins is a glamorous way to embellish simple sweaters. As with beads, always work sequins a stitch or two in from the edges for easier seaming. Accuracy is important when you work with sequins, because they are difficult to rip out once knit.
Sequins come with holes at the top or in the center. The hole placement determines how the sequin will lie, which will affect the finished look of your sweater.
Special care may be needed for sequined garments. Some sequins can be hand-washed but not dry-cleaned. Sequins shouldn’t be steamed or pressed. It’s also a good idea to check them for colorfastness.
Thread sequins onto a ball of yarn before you begin, using an auxiliary thread. String shaped sequins onto the yarn with the cup side facing the ball, so that the cup, which has more facets, will face out once it is knit. Add enough sequins to knit a full ball of yarn.
